CASHMERE
Cashmere is a type of wool from cashmere goats, and is known for its super-soft luxurious texture and its qualities in absorbing moist from the air. This makes cashmere an excellent material that helps regulate our body temperature in both warm and cold situations where it absorbs and releases moisture based on the environment.
The main environmental impact relate to the welfare of the animals as well as overgrazing due to the way that the goats are managed. Overgrazing occurs when goats are concentrated in a specific area for a long period of time, leaving that area of land with no time for the plants to regenerate, thus losing its biodiversity. The resulting rise in temperatures and air pollution due to the loss of biodiversity creates an impact on our global climate.

WHY RESPONSIBLE CASHMERE
Given the scarcity of the cashmere goat, many unsustainable practices have been developed over the years by herders and manufacturers to meet the demand of this precious type of wool. These even include false claims on “cashmere” garments when the composition of the wool hardly contains any cashmere at all. For that reason, we source responsible cashmere for our products.
What does that mean?
We require our manufacturers to ensure that our products have certifications such as the Responsible Wool Standards (RWS), giving us confidence that animals were treated respectfully during the process.
In addition, our manufacturer is certified under the Sustainable Fibre Alliance (SFA). This means that in addition to the welfare of the goats, the herders also uphold high global standards offering decent work to their workers, operating an effective management system, safeguarding biodiversity and uses land responsibly.
Last but not least, SFA certified herders follow best practices to preserve and enhance fibre quality, assuring us that our cashmere baby gifts offer the best qualities to our babies.
