Sustainability
Mission Statement:
Our mission is to combine the joy of luxurious baby gifting with our passion for environmental sustainability. To provide our friends, family and the wider community with the opportunity to give and receive high-quality, personal, practical and inclusive gifts that will become a future family treasure. To achieve our mission, we do the following:
- Sustainability: We preserve our environment by offering products that are made by renewable and recycled materials. We combat waste without sacrificing the joy in unwrapping a premium gift, through recyclable packaging.
- Personalisation: We understand the significance of personal touches. We offer a wide range of customisable options to create unique and one-of-a-kind gifts that reflect the individuality of each baby and their family. We create gifts that become part of the family’s heirloom.
-
Inclusivity: We are inclusive of babies with additional needs without making them feel different, by including tactile sensory toys designed to engage and stimulate their baby’s senses and aid early development.
- Quality and standards: We curate products from award-winning manufacturers and those meeting the highest standards of excellence, for the safety and wellbeing of babies. Each product is handpicked by our team for its exceptional quality in material, design and production.
- Community: We are committed to providing exceptional customer service and a seamless shopping experience. We value our customers' satisfaction and strive to exceed their expectations at every step of their journey with us. We support our wider local community and bring health and equality to mothers and children through donation.
Product offerings:
We offer a diverse range of sustainable and luxury personalised baby gifts. Our product offerings include:
- Organic clothing: We source GOTS organic, ethically-made clothing items such as knitted sets and hooded towels. These garments are not only gentle on the baby's skin but also promote responsible manufacturing practices.
- Personalised keepsakes: We provide a selection of personalised keepsakes, including blankets, plush toys, and baby journals. These items can be customised with the baby's name, birth date, and other special details to create treasured mementos.
- Eco-friendly wooden toys: We offer a range of eco-friendly wooden toys which are biodegradable and use non-toxic toys. These products are carefully curated to ensure they meet our sustainability standards.
- Gift sets and hampers: We curate thoughtfully designed gift sets and hampers, combining various personalised items to create a comprehensive gifting experience. These sets can be tailored to suit different themes or occasions.
Sustainability Initiatives:
We are deeply committed to sustainability and have implemented various initiatives to reduce our environmental footprint:
- Material sourcing: We prioritise the use of sustainable and organic materials in our products and take pride in our selection of wonderfully conscious manufacturers with strong credentials. Our luxury soft teddy bears are made from 14 plastic bottles that would otherwise end up on landfills or in the sea, whilst our wooden toys are made using sustainable rubber wood free from toxic paints. All our baby towels, blankets and clothing are made from GOTS organic cotton and made with OTEX 100 materials. Our baby textiles are primarily made from certified GOTS organic cotton spun into fabric that meets the highest chemical-free standards (OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100).
- Our packaging and gift boxes are environmentally responsible made with FSC certified materials, and minimalistic designs to minimise waste. Learn more about FSC here
- Supply chain: We partner with suppliers and manufacturers who share our commitment to sustainability and ethical practices. We ensure fair labour conditions and responsible sourcing of materials. Access our Supplier’s Code of Conduct
- Carbon emission: We have measures in place to measure our carbon footprint so that we can find ways to reduce it over time without impacting our stellar service promise. For unavoidable emissions we offset them with carbon offsetting projects are certified to the highest standards through the Verra - Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), the Gold Standard - Voluntary Emission Reductions (VER), and the United Nations - Certified Emission Reductions (CER) programmes. You may find our carbon neutral certificate here
- Commitment to give back: We are a member of 1% for the planet, a collective of businesses that formally commit to giving back at least 1% of their revenue to help our planet and society thrive. Through this initiative we support the Women's Environment Network Trust in the UK, helping families live a healthier and more sustainable life.
- Recycling and waste reduction: We actively promote recycling and waste reduction practices within our organisation. We encourage our customers to recycle packaging materials and provide guidelines for responsible product disposal. Find out more below.
- Transparency and reporting: Our commitment goes beyond a one-off exercise. We have goals and metrics to ensure that we continue to reduce our environmental impact, and create more positive social and environmental impact as a business. You can find our sustainability report for FY 22-23 here and our Environmental Stewardship Guidance here
‘Refresh & Repair’ programme
As part of our commitment to sustainability and waste reduction, we offer our ‘refresh & repair’ programme to all our cashmere, cotton and wooden toys. Rather than replacing your current items, we encourage you to check these into our workshop where they will be given an ultimate spa and make over which includes pilling of cashmere items, repair of wooden toys and deep clean and repairs of our knitted items to give all our beloved items a new life. Simply email us at info@babygifting.com with details of the items and we will get back to you with details.
Gift box recycling
We actively promote recycling and waste reduction and therefore all our luxury magnetic gift boxes are made from high quality and durable cardboard to allow you to reuse the boxes for keepsake storage for years to come. However, if you find you do not require the use of the box we encourage you to:
- Look at passing the box onto friends, family or neighbours who may wish to use the box or
- Donate to local charities, nurseries or schools who can use the boxes for creative projects or stationary storage
If despite the above two options, you still require to recycle your box, we encourage you to follow our recycling guidelines.
- Check your local recycling guidelines as these vary depending on location
- Remove non-recyclable magnets by simply cutting through the opening lift of the gift box using a sharp knife and dispose of the magnetics appropriately using your local guidelines
- Dissemble the box and flatten before placing in your main recycling bin to save space
- Sort into the correct recycling bin ready for local authority bin collection
Where possible we always encourage you to seek alternative ways to reuse your boxes before recycling.
